The Sweetbriar House
The Sweetbriar House was completed in 2012 and  is a 2400 SF private residence in the SW hills of Portland, Oregon. This house was designed  to be a modern "tree house"  taking full advantage of the views to the Tualatin Valley and the coastal mountains beyond.
Many of the materials for the interior of the house were selected with sustainability in mind. An engineered bamboo floor gives the home a feeling of warmth and recycled glass counters in the kitchen and baths are both beautiful and durable.
The Entire Living Space of this home is located on the upper level which facilitates an easy flow of daily activity and the large south facing windows provide abundant natural daylight and expansive views to the SW.

The house also incorporates many advanced building technologies such as a "rainscreen" exterior envelope and a triple glazed high performance window system.

The house is heated and cooled using a heat pump mechanical system with a heat recovery unit that saves on energy costs and provides a continuous exchange of fresh air to the interior environment. A tankless water heater was also installed to improve efficiency. The use of these "green" technologies has resulted in energy bills that are 20-30% less than a conventionally constructed house.
